Officer Phil Program
December 12, 2007
The Middlesex Police Department will once again be offering
the “Officer Phil” Safety Program to kindergarten through fourth grade
students in the borough. The first program will be presented on
December 12,
2007 at Watchung School and will be presented again on January 17th
and 23rd. to Von E. Mauger, Hazelwood and Our Lady of Mount
Virgin schools with the last performance at Parker School on March 20th.
“Officer Phil” is a unique safety program that uses an education
through entertainment approach to teach children safety.
The fun filled and informative assembly is entitled “The
Power of Kids”! Since feedback is crucial to learning, the “Officer
Phil” program encourages students to share their ideas about building
a better community with their peers. Along with the help of a lovable
animated character named “Lucky Duck” the children quickly become
interested and motivated to discuss such problems as Internet safety,
stranger awareness and accident prevention. Officer Phil and Pals
further engage the students in magical and musical activities that
promote the concept of such character values as responsibility,
respect and politeness.
The Officer Phil program is designed to help children develop
a sense of control in dealing with the challenging safety and social
issues impacting the county. The success of this program is based upon
the student’s ability to discuss these relevant topics with their
peers, families, teachers, and local police officers in a
non-threatening way.
The “Officer
Phil” Program has been made possible through the generosity of the
business, professional, and civic organizations serving Middlesex. The
Middlesex Police Department expresses its sincere appreciation to all
those who helped underwrite this important program.
